I met Chrissy in Montevideo, Uruguay, on Remote Year in 2016. I was really impressed with her from the start, and that only grew as I learned about her work as a consultant at Accenture and her blog about social entrepreneurship, Impact Beacon.

When I decided to create the Modern Work podcast, I knew she was someone I wanted to interview. She agreed, and we sat down to record an interview in my little apartment office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Fast forward many months later, and I finally learned enough about Adobe Audition to edit the episode, figured out how to create a website with an audio blog to create the RSS feed for me to submit to iTunes and other players, and then publish the podcast for the world to see!

So now I really couldn’t be more excited about getting to share my podcast & Chrissy’s story, which is why she’s episode #1.

Please go check it out to learn more about her dedication to working with nonprofits and telling stories of social enterprises from around the world.

The show notes include all her links & a summary of what we discussed in the interview, including:

  • Conversation about where “home” is
  • How Chrissy learned about Remote Year, why she wanted to do it, and how the challenge and experience has been so far
  • Impact Beacon as a passion project about social entrepreneurs around the world
  • What consulting is, a case study of a project Chrissy worked on at Accenture, her training, and the tools she uses
  • Studying public policy and global health at Duke University
  • Getting Accenture to say yes to Chrissy going on Remote Year (the first Accenture employee to do the program)
  • A day in the life of working at Accenture in DC on a new project
  • Working with Accenture while on Remote Year
  • The myth of digital nomad / remote work and travel / Remote Year
  • Successes with work while on Remote Year
  • What comes after Remote Year: going back to DC, continuing to learn how to be a strategist, gain experience with digital technology, keep Impact Beacon going

Find out more on Chrissy’s episode page, including links to listen on Apple iTunes and Google Play.
