Having been party to this holiday in other countries — hearing about it for the first time when the day was celebrated all over Casablanca when I was living in Morocco in 2009, for the record — I struggled a bit with how it was being celebrated this year in America (according to the news and Facebook, since I’m obviously not there for it).

A Day Without Women is an important method to show that we are, in fact, critical members of society, but perhaps we shouldn’t be shutting ourselves up on the one day designated to celebrate us all — not just as mothers or lovers or individuals, but as women, no additional qualifiers needed.

Thank you to Ksenia for writing & sharing her thoughts on this and helping me find the initial threads of mine.

And happy women’s day!
