Love this & agree wholeheartedly!
I went to the Memorial of the Shoah museum today in Paris and was thinking (a lot) during and after the experience. One thing that came to mind was that people don’t imagine my globe-trotting lifestyle to involve as much serious thought and learning as it does.
Yet I am constantly seeking out places to learn about the histories and cultures of the places I visit because not only is it a critical part of really getting to know them, but because you start to see these threads weaving together and realize that the world isn’t just interconnected today with the internet, but that it always has been.
And all the little choices we make each day matter. When we stay silent, when we speak up matters. Who we blame for what and why and when matters. It matters in ways and at scales we can’t conceive of.
History is so much more engaging than it our culture thinks, and hopefully with innovative approaches, it will be something more and more people pay attention and connect to.
