Social media marketing, Julia Jerg [Nomad Summit 2020]
This past weekend in Chiang Mai, Thailand, was the 8th Nomad Summit.
I attended the full conference day on Saturday & then taught a writing workshop on Monday.
Below are my notes from Julia Jerg’s presentation on social media marketing.
For an overall review of the Nomad Summit event, venue, high-level takeaways, book recommendations, and links to all the other speaker notes I took, check out my main review:
Julia Jerg: Social media marketing
- Started traveling in 2011, then started blogging in 2015
- Multiple income streams: social media marketing & consulting, fb group, blog, ebook, online course & teaching
- With SMM, consider: what is the story & social proof you want to stand for your brand and to be the online record of what you do?
- Who is your ideal customer / audience? Every post needs to address their needs aka solve their problem
- Social etiquette — be consistent, be social & engaging, be real & unique, be professional
- Make posts clickable — compelling headlines, clear CTAs, ask questions, insert links 25% of the way into the post esp on Twitter, use action words
- Share real content — BTS in Instagram stories, Facebook live for approachable
- Facebook is still very useful, 1.62B people log on every day
- Automation is key
A couple of my favorite aspects of Julia’s talk: her encouraging people to take creative approaches to finding clients & business opportunities, and shaping life around what you want vs expectations.
